Maryann Meade, founder and director of Maryann Meade and Associates since 1990, is a registered dietitian nutritionist and certified diabetes educator who has worked in the nutrition profession for over 45 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition from Marywood University completed a 12 month dietetic internship at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Bronx, N.Y. and earned her graduate degree from the University of Connecticut. In 2003 Maryann completed requirements for the diabetes educator certification, and continues to be recertified every five years.
Throughout her career, Maryann has worked in a wide variety of health care settings, including outpatient and inpatient health environments. She has also served as adjunct faculty member at the University of Connecticut, as marketing director for a wellness company, and she has done media work for local TV and radio stations.
Maryann is an active member in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics having held many offices at both the state and national level. She is a member of the Academy’s Practice Group Diabetes Care and Education and has served on their board as the delegate to the Academy’s House of Delegates. She is also a member of national organization of diabetes educators as well as the state level of diabetes educators.
Maryann has also been active educating legislators at the State and National level on legislation that affects the nutrition, and the access to nutrition, services of its citizens.
In her private time Maryann enjoys entertaining and creative ways to prepare foods. She also enjoys listening to music, going to the theatre, singing in the community chorus, reading and traveling. For exercise she enjoys ballroom dancing, walking, swimming and cross country skiing. She loves spending time with her three children and their spouses and her eight grandchildren.
